War in Vietnam At the time the Governments main Priority was the war in Vietnam. Although this war turned out to be a sudden death trap for many on estimated 800,00 to 3.1 Million Vietnamese were killed. 200,00 to 300,000 Cambodians were killed and 20,000 to 200,00 Laotians were killed.
Music Some music genres that were popular in the 1960s were British Invasion, R&B, Hard Rock, Folk Rock. Some famous artists which are still well known today are The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan, Jimmi Hendrix, The Beach Boys.
Hippie Movement As fashion in the 60s started to dramatically change The Hippie Movement was established. People wore Tie-dye shirts, Bell Bottom Jeans, Batik and Paisley prints. This basically influenced Women.
Pillow box hat This hat was originally made as a Military headgear and popularized in World War 1.
Civil Right Movement Civil Rights have shaped the 60s ever since four Black students sat at a White only tables and refused to leave. Most government tried to stay out of the Civil Rights act until 1964. When President Johnson pushed through an act to congress to prohibit Discrimination in public places. It also gave the Justice department permission to sue if this was broken.
Toys some toys that were introduced were the Barbie doll which we still use today. The G.I. Joe doll and the Skate board these are still wonderful now. Allot of the things that occurred in the 60's we still use today.
Fashion Fashion in the 60s was very diverse. First of all the bikini was beginning to get really popular. So were Mini Skirts and Go Go boots. So were Polyvinyl Chloride also known as PVC box shaped dresses.
Hairstyles A popular hairstyle for girls in the 60s were Bee hive like the picture above. They usually wore hair high. For guys it was the mop top or the Afro. Hairstyles were also like everything else in the 60s diverse.
